The Green Bag Program
Support local food pantries
The Green Bag Program is an easy and convenient way to support the North Central Washington Food Distribution Center, which provides food products to local food banks and meal programs in our two counties.
You can help diversify the food available in our food pantries and help fight hunger throughout Chelan and Douglas Counties simply by buying one extra food item every time you shop. We will collect your food items and deliver to the Food Distribution Center, a program of Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council.
How it works in 3 steps:
- Register from our website, email greenbags@cdcac.org, or call 509-662-6156, and ask about signing up to donate food. We’ll give you a green bag to fill.
- Each time you go shopping, buy one extra non-perishable food item. We even offer suggestions!
- Store food in your reusable green bag and a volunteer will come pick it up every odd-numbered month.
Become a Donor
Join your neighbors as a food donor in the Wenatchee Green Bag Program. When you sign up we will deliver a reusable Green Bag directly to your home. All you have to do is fill it!
On the second Saturday of odd months, a Neighborhood Coordinator or Driver will pick up your bag and leave another in its place. They will then take your bag to the NCW Food Distribution Center where it will be sorted and delivered to local food banks and pantries.
Become A Driver
Sign up to be a Wenatchee Green Bag Program Driver. Sometimes we need a little extra help in completing a neighborhood route. As a Driver, we may call upon you once in a while to help in with the pick up of bags and delivery to the NCW Food Distribution Center.
Become A Neighborhood Coordinator
Organize a small group of neighbors to be food donors in the Wenatchee Green Bag Program. Each donor gets a reusable Green (Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council) Bag to fill. Every two months you arrange to have the bags picked up, leave empty ones, and bring them all to the NCW Food Distribution Center where the food is then distributed to local food pantries.
* You do not have to build your own neighborhood to be a Neighborhood Coordinator; you can inherit a pre-existing neighborhood.
